I'm Coach Wes. I coach at Charger Aquatics in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I run our base senior group, swimmers chasing high-school success and Zone-level cuts, and assist with the Senior Regional and Elite programs. I'm also the team's Performance Lead, so I write most of our weightroom and dryland. Over a decade of coaching, I've worked with swimmers across the whole spectrum, from developmental to the national level.
apxswim started by accident
I wasn't trying to build a coaching platform. I just wanted a couple of calculators to help me write better practices and set more accurate paces for my swimmers. My head coach suggested I find a way to add live heart rate. Once I got that working, I kept going: a tool here, a tool there, the things I kept wishing I had on deck and the things other coaches asked for.
Before long it was bigger than a calculator. What I really wanted was to see the whole team's effort at once, so apxswim grew into a live heart-rate system for the deck: every swimmer's heart rate on one screen, and the analytics to coach from. The calculators stayed free out front.
What I believe
Every program deserves good tools, not just the elite teams. The technology that helps swimmers improve should not be priced or built only for national-level squads. A high-school coach and an age-group club should get the same edge.
Coaches should spend their time coaching. The hours lost to admin, juggling gadgets, and doing pace math on the wall are hours off the deck. apxswim exists to give those hours back.
Where it's going
apxswim is built the way I coach: consistent, not flashy, and shaped by what helps on the deck. It is in active development, and it gets better as coaches use it and tell me what they need. If you coach swimming, at any level, I built this for you.
